Face-to-Face Assessments

For face-to-face diagnostic assessments, we have offices in Bristol (Near Cribbs Causeway / A48,  and Lancing (BN15 8UE) . We are Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulty Specialists.  In Lancing,  Face-To-Face Full Diagnostic Assessments take place at our  ground-floor office at Lancing Business Park near Brooklands Park Lake. This is just of the A27/ Coast Road  and parking is plentiful, and free! In Bristol, your assessment takes place at BS35 4LW.
Please note this is a home office, and, whilst they will be hidden away,  Adelaide the Irish Setter dog and Gracie the cat do live at the premises. Your assessment is carried out by a highly experienced assessor with over 16 years experience.
If you are bringing a young person, you are welcome to wait in our rest rooms with complimentary refreshments.  Please click here to book your face-to-face assessment. Payment can be made at  either booking or on the day of your assessment. Please book either the Bristol or Lancing location (go to the online booking page and scroll down. The location is clearly stated on the booking page). For remote bookings, please book for BRISTOL, but mention it is a remote booking on the booking form. Call, text or email if you need a time out of the times offered online (for example, after school). (07521005842 or denise@coast-education.co.uk)

Remote Virtual Assessments (Via Zoom)
Remote assessments are carried out via Zoom. These carry the same validity as face-to-face assessments (SASC 2021) and the assessment report is the same.  Please book as if booking for an assessment in Bristol, but add a note in the booking page to say you would like a virtual assessment. These assessments are  convenient and can be carried out in the comfort of your own, quiet environment. For a remote assessment, children and young adults will require a facilitator (eg an adult) for background support. You will also need to complete a Virtual Assessment Agreement.
Assessments Available with Coast Education
If you are not sure if your child needs a full assessment:
A Dyslexia screening is £105 and takes 90 minutes. This is fully refunded from the cost of a full assessment if you have one within three months of the original screener , providing the screener is carried out on Zoom. This is for children only (7-14) and looks at aspects of a full assessment. This indicates the likelihood of dyslexia being present.  You receive a short  written report and recommendations. This must be carried out remotely if you would like to consider a refund later on (should a full assessment be booked later on) or can be face-to-face. If you want a remote screening assessment, please book for Bristol and make a note on the bookings page that it is for a REMOTE assessment.
If you want a firm diagnosis:
Full Face-to-Face or Remote Child Dyslexia Assessments (ages 7-15 inclusive for a firm diagnosis). These assessments are carried out by Denise, who holds a current Patoss Assessment Practising Certificate and DBS. Your young person's report and diagnosis remain valid ad infinitum and can be used as evidence that Examination Access Arrangements may be needed (for example, extra time in exams).  The comprehensive report gives extensive recommendations to your child's school and for you at home so the right support can be put in place. It can be  used to provide evidence that Examination Access Arrangements might be needed. The report adheres to SASC guidelines. Later on, the report can be used at  college and for Higher Education, as evidence  for an application for  University Disabled Students' Allowance and the The Department for Work and Pensions for Access to Work scheme.
Full Adult Assessment for Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties. Ages 16+. As above, the report is comprehensive and carried out by the APC holder. It is therefore accepted as evidence by Student Finance England for Disabled Students' Allowance Applications and by the DWP for Access to Work Applications. It adheres to SASC guidelines. Coast Education carry out assessments for many organisations, who sometimes fund assessments (for example, The Metropolitan Police, Open University). If you suspect you have  dyspraxia, please let us know, or ask for more information, as this will be incorporated into your assessment.
Assessment procedure
1. Print off an assessment questionnaire (click here) and, for a Virtual Zoom assessment, also complete the Virtual Agreement Form (click here). If you need paper copies, please email us and we will post these to you.
2. For a child, there are two parts to the assessment questionnaire, one part for you and one for school.  Give your child's school their part (if appropriate). This does NOT have to be returned prior to the assessment date. Please return your part before the assessment if possible, or on the day of the assessment.
3. Book your assessment online (or email us or call if you prefer).
4. Either attend your Face-to-Face assessment, or for Virtual Zoom assessments, the Coast Education manager will email you with meeting details and links, along with test papers you will need.
5. Your assessment report will be posted and emailed within a set time. Full Diagnostic Assessment Reports are very comprehensive and adhere to the SASC and Government Criteria.
Assessments are carried out by Denise Hawkes, who holds a current Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC) and
is registered with Patoss and the British Dyslexia Association. She also has a full online current enhanced Disclosure and Baring Certificate. She has nearly 30 years' experience working with children and adults as a specialist teacher, tutor and assessor.

A small selection of our testimonials. For more, please see here

We think the biggest testimony to the quality of our assessments are the school referrals and word-of-mouth referrals. If you have had an assessment with us, we love to hear back from you to find out how things are going! We are always here for advice if you ever need it.

Hi Denise,

'We always recommend you and the families you have worked with have always been so pleased with your work - so thank you!'

Mrs A. Cornish, Assistant Headteacher - Inclusion,

'My college said I might have mild dyslexia or slow working speed and they suggested a DSA assessment. The experience I received was excellent from Coast Education. The assessor Denise was very calm, patient and welcoming, the process was smooth and straightforward with a break and biscuits allowed in-between! I got awarded (for DSA) extra funding for work materials, extra time on exams, plus tutor and technology support. Thank you. Charlotte.'

(Update from Charlotte. 'Uni is really quite hard sometimes. But the software DSA gave me has been amazing!') Denise from Coast 'thanks for the demo' of Glean!'
